Gr 3-4 Session 1: Number Ninjas
Third & Fourth Grade Number Ninjas, Power Up Your Place Value! Get ready for an awesome Math Workshop Session where we’ll become masters of number sense and place value recognizing that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. We’ll explore the amazing world of numbers, understanding what each digit really means, and read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. We’ll compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.! Then, we’ll level up our addition and subtraction skills with whole numbers, discovering cool strategies to solve problems with efficiency and accuracy! Some of the addition strategies we will explore: breaking each number into its place value, making landmark or friendly numbers, doubles/near doubles, making tens, compensation, and adding up in chunks. Some of the subtraction strategies we will explore: adding up, removing or counting back, place value, keeping a constant distant, and adjusting one number to create an easier problem. Get ready for engaging games and activities that will boost your number smarts and make you confident problem solvers!
Six 2-hour sessions- Tuesdays 10:00 AM-12:00 PM: Sept. 9, 16, 23, 30 (skip Oct.7, 14), Oct. 21, 28

Gr 3-4 Session 2: Multiplication Mavericks
Multiplication Mavericks, Get Ready to Multiply! Join our Math Workshop Session and become a whiz at multiplying numbers including those multiples of 10 (like 20, 50, and 90). We’ll use clever strategies based on place value – understanding those tens and ones – and the magic of multiplication properties to solve problems like a pro! We will use conceptual understanding with visuals and hands-on tools to make sense of multiplication like arrays, area model, and more. Other multiplication strategies we will explore: repeated addition or skip counting, partial products as it relates to the distributive property, doubling and halving, and breaking factors into smaller factors as it relates to the associative property. Get ready for fun games and activities that will make you a multiplication superstar! Let’s multiply and master those multiplication facts together! We will also make a case for the connection between multiplication and division. Some division strategies we will explore: repeated subtraction or sharing/dealing out, partial quotients, and proportional reasoning. Join us!
Six 2-hour sessions- Tuesdays 10:00 AM-12:00 PM: Nov. 4, 11, 18 (no Nov. 25), Dec. 2, 9, 16

Gr 3-4 Session 3: Fraction Fanatics
Wanna be a Fraction Fanatics? Get Ready to Explore Equivalent and Ordering Fractions. Are you ready to become a fraction expert? Join our Math Workshop Session and discover the secret world of equivalent fractions – fractions that look different but are actually the same! We’ll use hands-on and visual models to see how they work. Then, we’ll become fraction comparison champions, learning awesome strategies to compare fractions with different numerators and denominators, even using benchmarks like 1/2. We’ll also build fractions from smaller pieces and add and subtract them like master chefs combining ingredients. Get ready for fun challenges and activities that will make you a fraction superstar! Let’s explore, compare, add, and subtract our way to fraction fluency!
Six 2-hour sessions- Tuesdays 10:00 AM-12:00 PM: Jan. 6, 13, 20, 27, Feb.3, 10

Gr 3-4 Session 4: Geometry Architects
Get ready for a geometry adventure in our Math Workshop Session! We’ll explore the exciting world of shapes, lines, and angles, and discover how they build the world around us. We’ll identify and compare different shapes, from quadrilaterals to polygons. We’ll delve into the concepts of area and perimeter, learning how to measure the space inside and around shapes. We’ll build on our knowledge by classifying shapes based on their properties, including parallel and perpendicular lines, and different types of angles. We’ll learn about symmetry and how to identify lines of symmetry. We’ll continue to explore area and perimeter, applying formulas to solve real-world problems. Some of the math tools that we will get our hands on are pattern blocks, plane and solid shapes, and even toothpicks with clay. Get ready for hands-on activities, shape-building challenges, and problem-solving quests that will make you a geometry guru! Let’s explore, create, and conquer the world of shapes together!
Six 2-hour sessions- Tuesdays 10:00 AM-12:00 PM: March 3, 10, 17, 24, (skip March 31), April 7, 14

Gr 3-4 Session 5: Measurement Mavens and Data Dynamos
Get ready to measure up and dive into data in this exciting Math Workshop Session! We’ll learn to collect, organize, and interpret information, and use our measurement skills to explore the world around us. We’ll apply our understanding of measurement to solve problems involving distance, time, liquid volumes, mass, and money. We’ll explore different units of measurement within the same system. We’ll learn to tell time to the nearest minute and solve problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals. We’ll measure lengths using rulers and explore different units of measurement. We’ll work with liquid volumes and masses, learning to estimate and measure them. We’ll create and interpret scaled bar graphs to represent data. We’ll learn to represent and interpret data using line plots. Come join us and have fun!
