The “Same and Different” math routine, also known as “Alike and Different”, involves students comparing and contrasting two mathematical concepts, ideas, or images to identify their similarities and differences. This routine helps students develop critical thinking, comparative thinking, and communication skills in mathematics.
The routine emphasizes reasoning and justification, encouraging students to use precise language to explain their observations.
It promotes mathematical discourse, helps students make connections between concepts, and fosters a deeper understanding of mathematical ideas.
Teachers and/or students can use a T-chart or Venn diagram to organize student responses, facilitating whole-class discussions.

Great news! We have done the hard work for you! We have artfully designed a comprehensive collection of Same & Different mathematically rich and interesting Google slides containing over 200 different slides to use with K-6 students covering these areas in math: number and operation in base ten, number and operation with fractions and decimals, (that’s addition, subtraction, multiplication and division!), geometry, measurement, data, and statistics.
