Math Workshops

Come join our in-person school-year supplemental, enrichment math workshops where all are welcome and promise to be funengaging learning experiences. These workshops are offered conveniently in the late afternoons, perfect for students in traditional schools and homeschool students who prefer this time frame.

Mastering Multiplication Strategies for Success

Join us for an engaging and interactive math workshop designed to help students master multiplication and build a solid foundation for future mathematical success. This workshop will move beyond rote memorization, focusing on a variety of effective strategies that make multiplication intuitive, efficient, and even fun!

Who Should Attend?

This workshop series is ideal for students who are currently learning, want a refresher, or are struggling with multiplication facts and concepts. Whether you’re just starting out or need to improve your efficiency and accuracy, this session will equip you with powerful tools.

What You’ll Learn

We’ll explore several key strategies, including:

  • Breaking Down Numbers: Learn how to use the distributive property to multiply large numbers by breaking them into smaller, easier-to-manage parts.
  • The Area Model: Visualize multiplication as the area of a rectangle. This powerful geometric approach helps conceptualize the process and is a great bridge to algebra.
  • Using Mental Math Tricks: Discover quick and clever mental shortcuts for multiplying by numbers like 5, 10, 11, and 12.
  • Mastering the “Why”: Understand the underlying concepts of multiplication so you can apply it in real-world situations, not just on a worksheet.

Workshop Benefits

By the end of this workshop series, students will not only feel more confident in their multiplication skills but will also have a deeper understanding of mathematical principles. Our goal is to transform multiplication from a challenging task into a powerful skill they can use with ease and have fun along the way.

Foundational Fractions

Join us for a dynamic math workshop designed to help students conquer fractions! This session will demystify the world of numerators and denominators, building a strong and lasting understanding of how fractions work. We’ll move beyond rote memorization and use a hands-on approach to make fractions intuitive and easy to understand.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is perfect for students who are just beginning their journey with fractions, students who would benefit from fractions being taught with hands-on math tools and visuals, or those who need a refresher to solidify their skills. It’s ideal for anyone who finds fractions confusing or intimidating.

What We’ll Explore

Our workshop will cover all the essentials of fractions through engaging hands-on activities and clear visual models. Students will learn to:

  • Visualize Fractions: We’ll use everyday objects like paper plates and pattern blocks to demonstrate what a fraction truly represents—a part of a whole or a part of a set.
  • Identify and Name Fractions: Learn the correct terminology for numerator (how many parts we have) and denominator (how many total equal parts make the whole) while matching the vocabulary to visuals.
  • Compare and Order Fractions: Discover simple strategies to determine which fraction is larger or smaller, including finding a common denominator and using visual models.
  • Equivalent Fractions: Understand that different fractions can represent the same amount. We’ll use fraction strips, diagrams, and number lines to show how the equivalent fractions represent the same amount.
  • Basic Operations: Get a foundational introduction to adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators.

Workshop Benefits

By the end of these sessions, students will not only feel more confident working with fractions but will also have a deeper conceptual understanding of them. Our goal is to transform fractions from a source of frustration into a powerful tool for mathematical success.

Early Number Exploration & Fun

This engaging, hands-on math workshop is designed specifically for children ages 4-6 to build a strong foundation in addition and subtraction up through 20. We’ll make math fun and concrete by using a variety of visual tools and engaging activities.

What We’ll Explore

This workshop series focuses on two key areas:

  • Adding and Subtracting Up Through 20 with Visuals: Kids will learn to confidently combine and separate quantities up to 20. We’ll use a range of helpful tools to make these concepts crystal clear:
    • Ten Frames: A powerful visual organizer that helps children see numbers in relation to ten, making number sense intuitive.
    • Dot Images (Subitizing): Quick recognition of small groups of dots without counting, which speeds up mental math.
    • Manipulatives: Using objects like colorful counters, pattern blocks, and other hands-on materials to physically represent math problems.
    • Number Lines: A straight-line model to visualize moving forward (addition) and backward (subtraction).
  • The Special Relationship Between Addition and Subtraction: We’ll discover that addition and subtraction are two sides of the same coin! Children will explore fact families (e.g., 3+5=8, 8−5=3) to understand how knowing one helps you solve the other.

Workshop Highlights

  • Playful & Interactive Activities: Our lessons are delivered through math games, hands-on math tools and visuals to keep young learners excited and focused.
  • Small Group Instruction: Ensures personalized attention and support for every child’s learning pace.
  • Developing Number Sense: We go beyond rote counting to help children understand the meaning of numbers and how they relate to each other.
  • Building Confidence: Children will leave the workshop with the tools and assurance to approach early math challenges with enthusiasm.
